I am actually offended that someone would try to put anything by Tamora Pierce into the same category as Twilight, because yeah, they’re complete opposites.

…on the other hand, I would LOVE to see the look on someone’s face who thinks they’re getting a character like Bella Swan and gets Alanna instead.

Nonononononono THIS IS A GOOD THING. It means that teens who have been brainwashed into thinking that girls are nothing but baby carriers will be tricked into reading a book with a strong female character who doesn’t let her life be defined by romantic entanglements. And then they’ll read all the other books in the quartet. And then they’ll read the other Tortall books.

And then they’ll read the Circle of Magic books, and read about Sandry, and find out that it’s okay to like girly things, just so long as you’re badass about it. And then they’ll move onto more feminist literature and realize just how fucking sexist Twilight is.

So this is a good thing.
